Android finally received its counterpart to iOS Newsstand from Apple in the form of Google Play Newsstand. This Newsstand is a news and magazine subscription hub which will also be arriving to the iPhone and iPad devices in 2014. The Google Newsstand allows users to subscribe to magazines and other publications that are present in one convenient place. It is a new Flipboard-style newspapers and magazines subscription currents application.

Google PlayIt is a one stop for the Android users where they can shop for magazines, newspapers and blog content. Initially, this app offers more than 1,900 free and paid content sources. In addition to the magazine partners, Google has also added subscription for the newspaper providers such as New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

As per the product manager of Google Play, Scott Dougall, the users of this app would be able to import their accounts that they have already made with these outlets and can also subscribe to other new content providers like Financial Times.

This new app from Google shares a name with Apple’s Newsstand and is also similar to it in functionality. Apple’s newsstand is a built-in application which was released in 2011. Just like Apple’s Newsstand, it also keeps all the content of users including subscription for magazines and newspapers in one convenient place.

For the users in UK, Canada, US and Australia, the Google Play Magazines will be upgraded to the Newsstand app in the next few days while the users from other region scan download it right from Google Play store.
