As per the recent reports, a hacker on Friday claimed security flaw in Apple iPhone’s iOS that makes users vulnerable to phishing attacks and text messaging cheating. The hacker says that it has confirmed about the flaw in place from year 2007 until this date. He also claimed that the issue has not been resolved even in latest iPhone 4S which includes the newest version of iOS 6. He made this announcement in a blog post using the name, ‘Pod2g’.
On the other hand, the issue is concerned with the header of the SMS. While the other smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S3 includes details of the originating number and ‘reply to number’ in their SMS headers, the Apple iPhone header only shows ‘Reply To Number’ in its header that potentially allows receiving messages from one number but when replied back though in same number, it goes to another number. The major concern is that it may reveal your private information to wrong people.
According to an Apple Spokesperson, Apple has demonstrated this problem in less then 24 hours and this morning, they have issued an additional software update that would eliminate the vulnerabilities related to text messaging from the iPhone. Apple also urges its customers to remain extremely careful if they are directed to any unknown address over the SMS.
While using iMessage could be a best option to avoid SMS Spoofing but users must be cautious while replying to any king of email or messages that ask for their private information like bank details. Moreover, Apple also suggested its users to delta any kind of messages regarding, ‘You Won lottery’ and all that always treat it like a spam.
